Kuala Lumpur

Hi All,

Just a quickie to let you know that we arrived safely in the sweltering hot megalopolis that is KL.

The 12 hour flight via J'burg was painful to say the least with the kindergarten for the whole of Asia being on our plane and Shaun and I not being able to sleep as I watch the clocks role forward 6 hours into my birthday. The guy next to me slept the whole way and I was very tempted a few times to wake him up for fun, but the maturity that comes with turning 26 on a plane prevailed.

We caught the slow bus in to KL (the airport is actually about 60km's out of town) and arrived at our hotel at 9am while you lot were all snug in your beds sleeping! We could only get our room at 1, so exhausted and thouroughly regretting ever considering travelling around the world for 10 months, we set off to 'sight see', even though we didn't see much through our half closed eyes (at least we fit in with the locals!).

There really isn't that much to see in KL (especially through closed eyes) so we found a local pond in some shade and proceded to pass out there until we could book in to our hotel, which we did and proceded to pass out again for 4 hours. We woke up even more tired but decided to see the night life for which China Town is so famous (the area in which we are staying). Well it didn't dissappoint! There were markets selling everything from fake rolexes to Budda's, and some dodgy food thrown in! We sat down at a wonky splastic table on the street and devoured the best noodles (don't ask me what was in the nooldes. the jury is still out as to whether it was oysters or pork) washed down with fresh Lime juice. We then went straight back to bed to ease the jet lag. Needless to say, turning 26 in a foreign 4th world country is slightly overrated, unless the party is in the back of your eyelids!!

Staying in KL again tonight as we need to sort our flights out today so wish me luck) and then we head for Melaka tomorrow to catch a ferry to Sumatra.

Hope all is well and that you are all well rested!

Love your slanty eyed friend
